Add page pictures
Page pictures represent the content of a page. They serve as background, if later additional “elements” (video, audio, pictures, links) are to be added.
With the menu item Commands - Add Page Images
you can open a window with options for selecting a folder containing the desired (page) images (see Selecting page images page images}),
Page images from a PDF conversion
If a book is created from a PDF file, the corresponding page images are automatically created by the conversion and stored in folders separated by image type (JPG, PNG, SWF).
After a PDF conversion, these images are available, but are not yet “set to pages”.
This is done via the automatically opened window “Add Page Images”. Only after completing this process (see Adding page images) will the converted PDF pages be displayed in the Mz3 book.
If you abort this process prematurely, the pages will be empty and you will have to run the Kommnado@Add Page Images@again.
Image types created with a PDF conversion:
- JPG
The page content, i.e. the image extracted from a PDF-page, is compressed. The degree of compression, and with that the loss of quality but also size, can be adjusted in the PDF conversion window (see Convert PDF).
This kind of page images id ideal for pages with lots of photos and just a few texts.
- PNG
The page image is compressed without loss of quality. With that, the size of png files is bigger than the size of jpg file. But the png format offers the advantage of sharper and better readable texts; especially with texts of small font sizes.
- SWF
This special format is a proprietary format of Adobe. Images/photos are compressed using a jpg-encoder, but all texts are represented as vectors!
A vector format does not save pixels but the shape of the characters are mathematically defined (direction, length, strength, color, …). Only at the moment text is output on a visual device, real pixels are created. This results in excellent qualities also in case of high scale/zoom level: Pixels become invisible (always the maximum pixel density is used).
An ideal compromise, offering perfect quality together with small size. The needed computer power is bigger, though.
At the beginning of the smartphone era, computer power was an issue and therefore SWF based images had been banned.
Now, after Flash is no longer is available, SWF is no longer supported in Browsers.
Exception: ActionScript3 based programs (ActionScript3 is an Adobe proprietary and fully supported script language, mostly used for game development on all computer platforms including smartphones) fully support SWF images also.
And since mz3Viewer, as well as mz3Tool, are built on ActionScript3, both fully support the SWF format.

Page Images from JPG and PNG Images
If no PDF version is available, it also is possible to place images of the correct size (or better: of the same aspect ratio as the page) on empty pages.
Those images can be photos or images that have been exported from programs used to design the pages; like InDesign, Photoshop, Corel Draw, Quark Express, Word, … or whatever your preference might be. As long as Image export (or PDF export) is supported. In such a case, we recommend the direct export into jpg or png images, because the “PDF way” will result in lower quality and longer process times: too many conversion steps!
