mz3Viewer variant (offline version, Adobe AIR)

There is always a search function in mz3Viewer (offline version).
A search file can be created during a PDF conversion.
Creating a search text file during PDF conversion is optional and enabled by default.
If a search file is created, the required plugin is automatically activated and integrated.
A search field is then displayed in the navigation bar in the viewer, in which the search text can be entered.

As a result, the first sites and a few lines before and after the site are listed. The more hits are found on a page, the higher the result is in the list.
Clicking on the result opens the book on the corresponding page and highlights the location in color (highlighting).

Browser variant (online version, JavaScript)

As of this version, a search function is also available in the browser variant.
This functionality is closely linked to the “SEO support”: {TOPIC-LINK + add-seo-text}, since the same text file is used for both functions.
This chapter describes the use of this text file with regard to the search function.

As with the mz3Viewer version, this text file is also created during a PDF conversion.
However, the possibility of displaying the searchable text must be released specifically.

Search symbol

The search function supported by the browsers as standard is used for the search. To do this, the search text file must be displayed in the browser.
This can be done using a symbol in the navigation bar or the burger menu.

This symbol can be done as usual in the * “Settings – JavaScript Settings – Modify Symbols”: {TOPIC-LINK + navbar-icon-symbols} * window.
A selection list with a “mobile version” command is available with which the text file can be displayed.
Instead of the proposed “cell phone” symbol, any other symbol, e.g. a magnifying glass to symbolize the search function.
It is planned to expand the command list with a special search command. However, this functionality has not yet been implemented.

Manual creation of a search text file

As an alternative to the automatic creation during a PDF conversion, the menu item * “Add SEO and Search Text”: {TOPIC-LINK + add-seo-text} * can be selected.

The search text file can be called up and modified in the standard editor in the window that opens.
After a PDF conversion, it is the automatically created search text file that can be checked and adjusted if necessary.

Here you can load your own search file. This is done by drag & drop or by opening a search text file in Explorer / Finder.
A search text file template is automatically created for support if no text file is available.

If no search text file for the current language was found when the window was opened, a new file is created.
In this otherwise empty file, a page break command is inserted for each page of the book so that the text file can later be displayed and selected page by page.

The desired search text is then inserted below such a page break command # p.

Special characters / control characters

The following commands are available:

  • p#
This string at the beginning of a line is recognized as a line break.
The assigned page number is also displayed in the line, which makes orientation easier when entering the text.
The line is terminated with a # character, which indicates that this information will not be output later when displayed in the browser.
  • #! Introduces a comment line. Everything that follows is not displayed in the browser but only for your own purposes / information

Use the search text file

Own search text file

If an externally created file has been loaded into the Explorer / Finder using Drag&Drop or OPEN, it can be adopted and activated with the SAVE button.

Automatically created search text file

If no search text file was created (either by a PDF conversion or an earlier use of the “Add SEO and Search Text” command to add a search text file), an empty template (prepared sample file) is automatically created and activated immediately. This file can also be edited immediately using the EDIT button.

If you do not delete the text file with the middle DELETE button, it will be used and you can continue with the CONTINUE button.

Display in the browser

Using a symbol added to the navigation bar (automatically via * Add SEO and Search Text * or manually via * Configure JavaScript Settings *), the language-specific “index.html” file automatically generated during the publishing process can be found in the “mobile-version” folder. stored, are displayed.
Information from the configuration files and the search text file is used to generate this file.

The special Text file, which is used for the search and the SEO support, is a pure HTML file without JavaScript and functions as the homepage for the browser.
Therefore, it has the file name * index.html *.
The folder in which this file is stored is labeled “mobile version”. This serves as “orientation” for the web-spyder / crawler, who search the entire Internet for information that is used for browser search queries. The name is semantically correct, since this text file can be read very well with mobile devices such as smartphones (no graphic “frills”, no small texts, automatically resized output) and serve as a “mobile alternative” for the presentation as an M3 book can.

How to kill several birds with one stone:

  • Mobile device support
    Better readability of the texts
  • Perfect bots / crawler support
And with that very good SEO support
  • Searchable text
And with it the possibility to fully use the search functions of the browser

Use of the search function

As soon as the special mobile-version / index.html file is displayed, it can be evaluated using the standard functions of the browser.
A search (“find”) is started with the keyboard shortcut CTRL-f after the search text has been entered in the browser-specific window.
Found text passages (hits) are graphically highlighted.
You can jump from site to site using small symbols (arrow buttons). Very convenient!

From the currently displayed page, you can return to the corresponding page in the Mz3 book by clicking on the text.
