The following setting options are available in the “Basic Settings” window:

Technology Selection

This is the central location to select the used MegaZine3 program variant:

  • For a Server/Javascript Version
  • For a mz3Viewer versions, used on a local desktop computer (based on AS3/Air)

Depending on this selection the correct “package” will be created when Publish is selected.
The offered setting options are also adjusted to this selection.

Open ‘Manage Elements’ Window automatically

Since version the default setting for the “Manage Elements” Window (opened using the Modify Elements On Pages Command) no longer opens this Window with a clickin the book.
If disabled, a click in the books performs the standard MegaZine3 operation like

  • starting a vVdeo
  • following Links
  • flip a Page

Only if the checkbox is marked, the former behavior is activated and the “Manage Elements” Window opens with every click in the book.

Show Tool Tips (Show Tool Tips)

The tooltips, which provide specific information for many setting and selection elements when hovering over with the mouse, can be activated/deactivated via this switch.
As long as there are less than 6 books in the “Recent List”, the tooltips are activated. Thereafter, it is assumed that sufficient experience exists and the tooltips are activated only if requested.
In addition, since version, a context help is available, which is the much more powerful tool.
If the tooltips become annoying and more disturbing than helpful, the tooltips can be suppressed here.
The selection is saved and taken into account after a restart.

Documentation settings

In automatic mode (selection “auto”) the documentation is always displayed as long as no more than 5 projects/books are created.
The system/browser language is used as the help language, with EN as the fallback.
This can be modified via the adjustment fields on the top right of the Basic Settings Window.

on / off
With “off”, the automatic display of the documentation can be switched off permanently.
With “on” it will be permanently displayed, regardless of the number of projects.
The documentation can be called temporarily via “Help – Context Help”.
Either DE (German) or EN (English) can be selected as documentation language.

Page Size (Page Width and Height)

The current page size can be changed. Either by entering a value in pixels or using the slider.
The slider snaps to multiples of the base value, which helps to minimize scaling artifacts (pixel rounding errors).
If the width is changed, the height will be adjusted according to the original picture aspect ratio.
If the height value is changed, the value for the width remains unchanged. Page images will then become distorted.
The original values are displayed for orientation and potential reset.

Page Image Count

The number of page images of the book can be adjusted here.
If the page image count is reduced, page images that are no longer used (part of the book) become “orphaned” and can be deleted with the “Clean-Up” button in the Modify Elements window.

Page Type (Page Type)

Here either the single or double-page book type can be defined. Changing the book type results in an adjustment of the number of pages.

Setting “* auto *”: The book type is based ratio of the page format of the first to the second page of the PDF file (if a PDF file is used).

The single (or probably double) page count is calculated out of the number of the entered page images. The page counts are shown on the right side of the page type selection box.

Publish Location

The default setting for the output base folder of the published “packages” (folders / files created via the Publish / Distribute menu item) is:
(User) / documents / mz3Tool / myPublications /

The version-specific packages are stored in the folder specified here in subfolders corresponding to the MegaZine3 program version:
  • forServer_JS
  • forMz3Viewer
  • forServer_FLASH

Please set the path to the website base folder of Xampp as “Publish Location”.

  • For Windows this is “c:\xampp\htdocs
  • For MAC OSx the corresponding path is “Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs

If the default installation path of XAMPP has been found, it is automatically selected but can be overwritten.

With this setting of the “Publish path”, the online package (JavaScript) is stored directly in this folder and can be accessed in the browser via the URL (website address).
localhost/(book name)/index.html

Or directly via the button after creating a Javascript version via Command – “Publish/Distribute:

Mz3 Project Base Path

The default path for Mz3 projects is this folder: Documents/mz3Tool/\_mz3ToolInternal
If you want to delete the folder, e.g. to relocate to another (network) disk, enter the path to the new location for the Mz3-Projects.
