Preselection (set a default folder)

After clicking the menu item Edit Book – Add Page Images the folder with the Page Images to add can be selected.

FOlders with the rsultes (Page Images) of a PDF conversion

If a PDF conversion has already been carried out, the folders of the generated Page Images can be selected directly according to the requested image type:

  • JPG
  • PNG
  • SWF

The number in parentheses after the file type indicates the number of available Page Images.

Any folder

If you have already created Page Images outside mz3Tool with another program (or the camera), use the button to open explorer/finder and select the folder containing those images.

Page Image Selection

In both cases, the File Explorer (or Finder on a MAC) opens with the desired folder.
In the case of , either the Documents Folder or the last used folder will be displayed.
Only files of accepted image types are displayed.
As usual, you can select the desired Page Images with a single click, or together with the keys CTRL (single selection), UMSCH (block selection) or CTRL-a (all).
Images may also be different in image type, i.e. you can select JPG, PNG and SWF (and optionally already SVG) images selectively; or even mixed.

Another option to select page images is in dragging the page images of your choice from an open browser window on the green “Page Image” Input field.
Right after the selection the Assign Page Images To Pages Window is opened, where you can sort and select the images; and assign them to pages.

Unfortunately mz3Tool cannot monitor and handle that and even the latest version of Adobe AIR (v33, 64 bit) did not address this bug ;-(

SVG support and SVG tipps

A selection of SVG Files is supported, but this format it not yet (fully) supported in mz3Tool! So be aware to experience unexpected results ;-)

But iIf you want to run some first tests with SVG files and accept potential problems (the program might hang or continue with strange settings like disabled menu items), feel free to play with it ;-)
As little help here please check this incomplete list to see where we stand at the moment.

  • SVG Images can be selected as PIMG (Add Page Image) or Images (Add Image)
  • SVG Images might be shown in the selection data grid
  • Adding such SVG elements is problematic.
If (at all) possible, only one SVG image at a time might be “blindly” added.
  • Preview of SVG images in the mz3Tool book is not supported
  • SVG Images cannot be scaled or positioned (and are not visible in the AIR/mz3Viewer version) at all
  • SVGs as thumbnails are not supported yet
  • SVGs added to pages (one by one) might show up in the Online version, i.e. the JavaScript version in you Browser

To date this is more kind of “proof of concept” (positive so far!) and not ready for use! To be on the safe side please avoid selecting SVG Files!

The support will improve version by version, because we are convinced SVG elements will become a very important option in future!
Like SWF images (SWF files aren’t pure images neither, even video and interactive games are possible with SWF Elements) the SVG format is vector based. Offering all the benefits of vectors in many cases; like perfect scaling support without pixelation, small file size etc.
The downside is higher needs for computer power (still critical on mobile devices), which will become more and more a no-brainer because of native support in browsers and hardware improvements.
The SVG format is already standardized and supported in all new browser versions.

BUT: SVG “Images” are no images but “documents”, and require a completely separate handling.
They e.g. cannot be scaled as usual but the viewport must be adjusted and the document transformed.
If an SVG element is invisible it might be outside the viewport because of the settings of the reference point.
Just to mention a view specifics…
